Dead Peasants Insurance Policy

-CTF Editorial: July 26, 2003

"Dead Peasants Insurance Policy". That is the name given by these corporations to a specific type of life insurance policy. They call it that because it's a return of the notion of serfdom. guess who the serf is? A while back, I wrote  about how corporate CEO's were nothing more than new versions of the Feudal Lords of old, but man, even I didn't know how right I was...

What this is, is a life insurance policy taken by a company on the lives of their employees. But here's the kicker. When the employee dies, the benefits don't go to the employees family, they go to the corporation.

So say you're a checker at a convenience store and you work the graveyard shift. That shift's nomenclature is about to take on new meaning for you. The company COULD spend money on a bullet proof glass in front of your counter, but doesn't. You get shot in some late-night stickup, and they get PAID for not helping to protect your life, and your family gets nothing.

Here's another disturbing part about this. In many states, they aren't required to inform you that they've even taken out a policy on your life. So they work you to death, with long hours, high stress, no medical care, and no vacations -- they in essence are the ones who KILL YOU -- and they get paid for it.

Now if an individual had taken out a policy on your life, not only would they be required to inform you and get your consent, but if evidence could be presented that you were murdered by their actions, the insurance policy would be seen as the motive.

Additionally, even if you no longer work for the company, as long as they pay the premiums, they benefit from your death.

It is the single most obscene thing I've heard since... well, since the last time Bush opened that pie hole in his face.

And roughly 1/4 of all the Fortune 500 do this, including Wal-Mart (big surprise), Kodak, Dow Chemical, etc.. This needs to be made illegal, like, YESTERDAY.
