Crossing a Tree, with a Cow, with a Fish

Ordinary methods of genetic modification which have been performed over thousands of years by humans have been restricted to "blending" of characteristics within a species. Transgenic modification is another thing altogether. Substantial equivalence cannot be proven in a technical sense, yet corporations argue this very case as a justification for the introduction of these transgenically modified products into the food supply.
Market forces introduce a new and dangerous dynamic to the useage of such modifications, as is evidenced by the introduction or sterling corn, which is only fit for animal consumption, into the food supply. The most famous case of this was of course the Taco Bell taco shell incident, but sterling corn has been found in the food supply in Japan, England, and Denmark.
Genetically engineered corn and soy has even been found in Gerber baby food.
